Scoring & What’s a Good Score?
-
You must achieve a passing score of 70% or above to be considered eligible.
-
Scoring higher than the minimum is beneficial — higher scores improve your chances of being selected faster.
-
If you fail, you must wait 12 months before retaking the exam. If you passed but want to improve your score, you must wait 2 years.
-
Because of this, preparing well before you take the exam is extremely important.
How to Prepare Effectively
-
Begin by understanding each question type and what USPS expects — for example, how to respond to behavioral questions honestly and consistently.
-
Use full-length practice tests that mirror the real format so you’re comfortable with the flow of the exam.
-
Focus on accuracy and speed in objective sections like error-checking and register operations (where applicable).
-
Review sample answers for the “Tell Us Your Story” section, so your responses are clear, relevant to the role, and aligned with USPS job expectations.
